It's after the evening prayer,
the lamps are lit
and the tables are laid
but I'm immersed
with the thoughts of my Friend (God)

I asked the ney-flute:
How come you're also wailing with such a passion?
the Flute responded:
Just like you, I'm also being separated
that's good enough reason for wailing.





سوال کردم از خار کین سلاح تو چیست
جواب داد که گلزار صد عدو دارد


I asked the thorn:
Why are you carrying all those arms?
The thorn responded:
The flower garden has a hundred sworn enemies!

And pitched my tent, in the Forest of Material existence.
I passed through mineral and vegetable kingdoms,
Then my mental equipment carried me into the animal kingdom;
Having reached there I crossed beyond it;
Then in the crystal clear shell of human heart
I nursed the drop of self in a Pearl,
And in association with good men
Wandered round the Prayer House,
And having experienced that, crossed beyond it;
Then I took the road that leads to Him,
And became a slave at His gate;
Then the duality disappeared
And I became absorbed in Him.

O God,
If the night of separation is dark,
We still rejoice,
For the morning of union is bright.
What grace is this that you have bestowed on your friends?
Whoever recognizes You finds them,
And whoever finds You recognizes them.






O God,
There is no limit to Your grace.
There is no tongue capable of uttering thanks to You.
You are ever-present.
 Why then should I search?
You are ever-mindful.
 What then should I say?O God,
If my body is a sinner, my heart is obedient.
If I am an evil-doer,
 Your Mercy is my intercessor.
You cast pearls of purity into Adam's lap.
You smeared the dust of rebellion on Satan's brow.
These two natures, You mingled together.
We humbly confess that we have done wrong.






O God,
I may not be among Your saints,
But like the dog of the Sleepers of the Cave,
I am at Your gate.
The rose of the garden is a thorn in the feet of the mystics.
What cares he for the garden who is searching for You?
Your beggar is happy in what he does,
Because Your beggar is a king in this world and the next.






O God,
When there comes a trace of Your love,
All other loves fade away.
Everybody fears the Day of Retribution,
But Abdullah fears the Day of Pre-Eternity
Because what You decreed in the beginning
Will never be changed in the end.






O God,
If I have not been a friend,
I have not been an enemy either.
Although I persist in sinning, still I confess Your Oneness.
No matter how much You take away from me,
I take nothing away from You.
You are the way-station, Your friends are the way.






O God,
No tongue is capable of expressing thanks to You.
There is no shore to the ocean of Your grace.
The mystery of Your Reality is not revealed to anyone.
Lead us on that road than which none is better.
Take me by the hand, for I have nothing to present to You.
Accept me, for I am unable to flee.
Open a door, for You open all doors.
Show the way, for You show all ways.
I give my hand to no helper, for all are transitory:
Only You abide forever.





O God,
Grant us protection that we may dwell in the lane of Your love;
Grant us a tongue with which we may render You thanks.
Everything depends on Your favor: the rest is just pretext.
By virtue of the fact that You have no need,
Have mercy upon the one who has no defense.





O God,
You know why I am happy:
It is because I seek Your company,
Not through my own efforts.
You decided and I did not.
I found the Friend beside me
When I woke up!



O God,
You are the aim of the call of the sincere,
You enlighten the souls of the friends, and
You are the comfort of the hearts of the travelers
Because You are present in the very soul.
You are the life of the soul,
You are the rule of speech, and
You are Your own interpreter .
For the sake of Your obligation to Yourself,
do not enter us into the shade of deception, but
make us reach union with You.





O God,
In our hearts plant only the seeds of love for You.
For these souls destine only grace and favor.
Send down on these friends only the rain of mercy.
Smear our brows with the dust of shame,
But let us not be chastised with Your affliction.
By the sanctity of that name which You know,
By the sanctity of those attributes which You are like,
Hear our plea, for only You are capable.
For only You are capable of that.

نمی توانیم که این کار بی تو به سر بریم

از آنچه نخواستی چه آیــــد؟
 و آن را که نخواندی کی آیــد؟
تا کشته را از آب چیست؟ 
و نا بایسته را جواب چیست؟
تلخ را چه سود اگر آب خوش در جوار است؟
و خار را چه حاصل از آن که بوی گل در کنار است؟

O you who have departed from your own self,
but not yet reached the Friend:
Do not be sad,
because He is accompanying you
in each of your breath.
May Love lights your way .

The heart left,
and the Friend is also gone.
I don't know whether I should go after the Friend
or after the heart!
A voice spoke to me:
"Go in pursuit of the Friend,
Because the lover needs a heart
In order to find union with the Friend.
If there is no Friend,
What would the lover do with a heart?"

Cannot see the attributes of the Hereafter,

Abdullah Ansari -حضرت خواجه عبدالله انصاری

"Khwaja Abdullah Ansari(1006-1088) , one of the renowned and most devoted of early Persian Sufis, was born in Herat [a western city in Afghanistan]. He is the author of many books on Islamic mysticism and philosophy in Persian and Arabic. His most famous work, "Monajat Namah" ('Intimate Conversations with God'), is considered a masterpiece of Persian literature. After his death, his students and disciples compiled his teachings of the 'Commentaries on Quran'[Tafsir Quran], and named it "Kashful Asrar"[Unveiling of the Mysteries].One of the major early writers of Persian mystical literature, Ansari is best loved for this collection of simple flowing sentences long used as a devotional handbook.In his very human dialogues with God, Ansari speaks of a love and longing for his Creator as well as the frustration at his own human frailty.."

شیخ الاسلام امام اللئمه ابو اسمعیل عبدالله بن ابی منصورمحمد بن ابی معاذ علی بن محمد بن احمد بن علی بن جعفر بن منصور بن
الخرزجی الانصاری الهروی ـنسبت وی به ابوایوب انصاری از مشاهیر صحابه حضرت رسول ص منتهی می گردد ـابو ایوب انصاری در زمان خلیفه سوم حضرت عثمان ع به خراسان آمد و در هرات ساکن شد ـ مادرش از اهل بلخ بود ـمولدش در دوم شعبان سال 397 هجری قمری در شهر هرات و وفاتش در ذی الحجه 481 هجری قمری در گازرگاه هرات بوده و در همانجا بخاک سپرده شد ـ مدت عمر شریفش 83 سال بوده است ـ صاحب نفحات الانس مولد خواجه صاحب را در سال 376 ذکر کرده ـ

خواجه عبدالله انصاری از جمله علما و محدثین و از اکابر صوفیه و عرفا است مذهبش حنبلی و مایل به تجسیم و تشبیه و در عقیده خود نهایت رسوخ و تعصب بوده است ـ

خواجه از بزرگان مشایخ و علمای راسخ بوده و بخدمت شیخ ابوالحسن خرقانی اخلاص و ارادت داشته خود در مقالات گوید ـ عبدالله مردی بود بیابانی میرفت بطلب آب زندگانی ناگاه رسید به ابواحسن خرقانی چندان کشید آب زندگانی که نه عبدالله ماند نه خرقانی ـ

کتاب منازل السائرین منسوب بآن جنابست و ایضاً کتاب انوارالتحقیق که شامل مناجات و مقالات و نصایح اوست ـ منازل السائرین سخنان صواب بی حساب دارد و این کلمات از آن کتاب می باشد ـ

الهی ـ دو آهن از یک جایگاه ـ یکی نعل ستور و یکی آئینه شاهی

چون آتش فراق داشتی آتش دوزخ چرا افراشتی ـ

الهی پنداشتم که ترا شناختم اکنون پنداشت خود را بآب انداختم

الهی عاجز و سر گردانم ـ نه آنچه دارم دانم و نه آنچه دانم دارم ـ

منازل السائیرین در جزالت الفاظ و رعایت معانی و گنجایش مطالب و مسائل در عبارات مشهور است ـ

خواجه از کودکی زبانی گویا و طبعی توانا داشته و شعر عربی و فارسی نیکو میسروده و بهر دو زبان عــــربی و فـــارسی مسلط بوده است ـ در بعضی اشعارش انصاری و در برخی پیـــر هــرات تخلص فرموده است ـ

شیخ السلام که در کشور ما افغانستان به خواجه عبدالله انصاری هروی معروف است اشعار

و رباعیات بسیار شیرین بزبان فارسی دارد و هموست صاحب مناجات ملیح معروف و هموست که کتاب طبقات الصوفیه را در مجالس وعظ و تذکیر املا نموده و بعضی تراجم دیگر از خود برآن افزوده و یکی از مریدان وی آن امالی را بزبان شیرین هراتی قدیم جمع کرده است ـ

پس از آن در قرن نهم هجری مولانا عبدالرحمن جامی آن امالی را از زبان هراتی به عبارت فارسی معمول در آورده و کتاب نفحات الانس معروف را ساخته است ـ شیخ را به عربی و فارسی تصانیف بسیار بوده است آنچه بالفعل موجود است یکی ذم الکلام است که به عربی است و در موزیم بریتانیا موجود می باشد و دیگری منازل السائیرین الی اسحق المبین که آن نیز به عربی و نسخ متعدده از آن در کتابخانه های اروپا موجود است ـ

و دیگر رساله مناجات معروف که بزبان فارسی است و رساله رادایعارفن که آن نیز بزبان فارسی و در موزه بریتانیا میباشد و کتاب اسرار که ان نیز بزبان فارسی و منتخباتی از آن باقیست ـ

مطلب دیگر که قابل تذکر است اینکه بسیاری از رباعیات که به عمر خیام منسوب است از خود او نیست بلکه از اساتید 
دیگر از قبیل خواجه عبدالله انصاری و سلطان ابو سعید ابولخیر و خواجه حافظ و دیگران می باشد ـ
